Cotton Elastic
We carry two types of cotton elastic yarns.
The first one is called Colcolastic and it is produced by the Dutch company Venne. We stock all the colors in small spools: 11gr=150 m (0.4 oz = 165 yards). The content is 93% cotton and 7% Lycra (R).
Additionally, we have several colors of an Italian yarn which we sell in 1 oz cones. The content is similar to Colcolastic — 94% cotton, 6% Lycra (R), and it is finer.
These two yarns behave differently due to how they are plyed. In Colcolastic, the cotton is thicker and plyed very loosely. While the Italian yarn has a more balanced ply (both the elastic and the cotton are of similar size), and it is a tighter ply. Therefore, it will collapse more than Colcolastic. The samples below were woven on the same warp (2/260 tussah silk). When the silk was sleyed in the reed, dents were skipped at regular intervals. In the first half of both samples the elastic yarn was used in every shot. In the second half of the samples, the elastic yarns were alternated with the same silk used in the warp.
